Vice President of Distribution

About the Organization

We are a U.S.-headquartered, enterprise-scale omni-channel commerce and distribution platform operating one of the most advanced fulfillment and logistics networks in North America. Our ecosystem includes highly automated distribution campuses, regional cross-dock hubs, returns re-commerce centers, temperature-controlled nodes, and last-mile carrier partnerships supporting millions of customer deliveries and store replenishment transactions each week.

We serve high-demand retail and direct-to-consumer categories where speed, accuracy, inventory integrity, and cost-to-serve discipline directly determine margin performance and customer loyalty. As we expand next-day and same-day delivery coverage, invest in robotics and warehouse execution technology, and optimize our network footprint, distribution leadership is central to protecting service levels while scaling throughput and profitability.

We are seeking a transformational Vice President of Distribution to lead multi-site distribution performance, network execution governance, labor and automation productivity, and end-to-end service reliability, driving enterprise distribution outcomes at scale.

Job Function

The Vice President of Distribution is accountable for enterprise distribution performance across multiple high-volume facilities, overseeing operational excellence, safety governance, inventory accuracy, labor planning, automation utilization, and cost-to-serve improvement. This executive partners across Transportation, Planning, Procurement, Customer Experience, and Technology to ensure distribution execution aligns with growth strategy, SLA commitments, and margin targets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own enterprise distribution performance across a multi-site network, delivering measurable gains in throughput, on-time shipments, order accuracy, and cost-per-unit performance.

  • Architect a multi-year distribution strategy aligned with omni-channel growth, including network capacity, site specialization, and peak readiness planning.

  • Lead facility leadership teams (GMs/Site Directors) through standardized operating cadence, KPI governance, tiered accountability forums, and performance escalation protocols.

  • Drive automation productivity across robotics, sortation, conveyance, and goods-to-person systems, maximizing uptime, utilization, and ROI while protecting service stability.

  • Implement labor planning discipline, including staffing models, engineered labor standards, workforce productivity metrics, and contingency planning for peak/volatility.

  • Strengthen inventory integrity and controls across inbound, putaway, cycle count, returns, and shrink mitigation, improving record accuracy and reducing rework.

  • Execute enterprise safety and compliance leadership, embedding world-class EHS governance, incident prevention systems, and audit-ready operational practices.

  • Optimize operating costs and working capital, improving space utilization, slotting strategy, packaging efficiency, and network flow to reduce cost-to-serve.

  • Partner with Transportation leadership to align dock schedules, carrier performance, linehaul capacity, and last-mile cutoffs to protect the end-customer promise.

  • Lead vendor and 3PL governance where applicable, ensuring contract compliance, service-level enforcement, and operational integration across partner sites.

  • Build enterprise performance analytics dashboards covering SLA attainment, productivity, quality defects, attrition, overtime, automation availability, and unit economics.

  • Represent distribution performance to executive leadership through structured reporting, investment proposals, and network optimization recommendations.

Strategic Support

  • Advise the CSCO on network redesign, site footprint strategy, and long-range capacity planning tied to growth scenarios and service-level commitments.

  • Support M&A diligence and integration for newly acquired distribution assets, including process standardization, systems harmonization, and leadership assessment.

  • Partner with Technology on WMS/WES modernization, labor management systems, yard management, and real-time visibility initiatives.

  • Guide peak readiness and resilience planning for weather events, carrier disruptions, labor volatility, and supply shocks.

  • Align distribution operating model to ESG and sustainability targets (waste reduction, packaging optimization, energy efficiency, reverse logistics).

  • Strengthen leadership pipeline through succession planning, talent calibration, and enterprise readiness development for site and regional leaders.

Job Qualifications and Requirements

  • 18+ years progressive distribution, fulfillment, or supply chain operations leadership experience, including large-scale multi-site accountability.

  • 8+ years leading enterprise distribution networks within e-commerce, retail, CPG, 3PL, or high-volume parcel/omni-channel environments.

  • Proven track record improving unit economics (cost-per-unit, labor productivity, SLA performance) in high-throughput operations.

  • Demonstrated experience with automation/robotics environments and measurable productivity outcomes from mechanization.

  • Strong command of WMS/WES operations, inventory control, labor planning, engineered standards, and operational KPI governance.

  • Executive capability in EHS leadership, audit readiness, and operational risk mitigation.

  • Experience managing large operating budgets and capital planning; capable of building investment cases and performance ROI models.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

Personal Capabilities and Qualifications

  • High-caliber stakeholder manager across Transportation, Planning, Tech, HR, Finance, and Commercial leadership

  • Calm, decisive leader in peak, disruption, and rapid-growth conditions

  • Builder of high-performing leadership teams with a bench-strength mindset

Working Conditions
